I have completed the reading of this book on Dec. 2015. This is really a great a book of learning Apache Spark. It does not spend too many words on theory as well as the explanation. It introduces the code directly in front of you, simple and accurate. The way of learning from this book is very straightforward and efficient than other books. In addition, the book has a good focus on various areas of Apache Spark, especially on machine learning and graphic tops. Even it is a little bit rush, but it is ok as it is a cookbook. If you are a user who wants to start to learn Spark immediatelly and quickly, this is the book you should definatelly go for.

I have completed the reading of this book on Jan 24, 2016. This is one of earliest and completed book about Apache Spark. It covers everything from an introduction to detailed coding strategy. The majority of code samples in this are given in python, scala, and java. It is also great alternatives for spark official documents. Although the book is based on an earlier version of spark, it is not outdated yet. The ways of explaining things in this book are very clear and concise. The last chapter of the book regarding machine learning feels a little bit rush. Anyway, this is a great spark book to recommend.
